Vice-President’s Stirring Call to Farmers: A Day of Pride and Promise!

The Vice-President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, celebrated the unsung heroes of Haryana’s fields at the Parliament House. As promised, he hosted these progressive farmers and broke bread with them, emphasizing the pivotal role they play in India’s economy.

Politician and attorney Sri Jagdeep Dhankhar has served as Vice President of the Republic of India since 2022. From 1990 to 1991, he also held the position of Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs. From 1989 to 1991, he served in the Lok Sabha, and from 1993 to 1998, he served in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly.

Invitation To Farmers

Earlier this month, on the 8th of October, Shri Dhankhar inaugurated the Krishi Vikas Mela in Haryana and extended an open invitation to the farmers to visit the new Parliament building in Delhi. Keeping his word, more than fifty exceptional farmers visited Parliament House, where they were awarded certificates and shawls for their remarkable contributions to agriculture, horticulture, dairy, and fisheries.

Addressing the farmers, the Vice-President extolled their significance as the backbone of the nation’s economy and articulated, “Being a farmer is a matter of pride.” He emphasized that the happiness of farmers resonates throughout the country, fostering prosperity for all.

Shri Dhankhar, delighted by the farmers’ visit to Parliament House, noted the international significance of the day as parliamentarians from G-20 nations gathered in India. He urged that discussions about farming and farmers take center stage in this prominent forum.

Kisan Putra

The Vice President revealed his heartfelt gratitude for being introduced as ‘Kisan Putra’ by the Prime Minister in the Rajya Sabha. He highlighted his unwavering commitment to institutions dedicated to farmers’ welfare.

He congratulated the awarded farmers, heralding them as beacons of inspiration, encouraging others to follow their path.

Great Potential of Agricultural Industry

He also underlined the immense potential in the trade of agricultural products and the involvement of educated youth from institutions like IIT and IIM in this sector. He urged farmers and their children to participate actively. Using the example of milk production, he suggested farmers form groups to market products like buttermilk, curd, and cheese, stressing the importance of branding.

Advocating for farmers’ enhanced role in trade and the export of agricultural products, the Vice President urged them to focus on value addition and marketing. He emphasized the importance of modern technology and the formation of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs).

He lauded the government’s farmer-friendly initiatives and emphasized the vision of Chaudhary Charan Singh, now being realized by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

Who is Chaudhary Charan Singh?

Often referred to as the “Champion of Peasants,” Chaudhary Charan Singh was a prominent political figure in India, celebrated for his unwavering dedication to the welfare of farmers and agricultural communities. As the 5th Prime Minister of India, his tenure from 1979 to 1980 was marked by his pioneering initiatives in support of the agrarian sector.

Calling for innovation and diversification in farming practices, the Vice President encouraged farmers to break free from tradition.

The Vice President concluded by affirming the farmers’ inherent right to visit Parliament, with him serving as a conduit for their presence. It was indeed a day of pride and promise.
